Jean-Paul Servais has been appointed as chair of the board of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions, or Iosco, the international policy forum for securities regulators. He will replace Ashley Alder, former CEO of the Hong Kong  Securities and Futures Commission who will become chair of UK regulator FCA in January.

Servais, chair of Belgium’s financial market supervisor FSMA and a well-known figure in international regulatory circles, already served as vice chair of Iosco’s board. His appointment was decided during Iosco’s 2022 annual meeting in Marrakesh.

Iosco appointed two new vice chairs: Ariizumi Shigeru, vice commissioner for international affairs at Japan’s Financial Services Agency, Japan, and Rostin Behnam, chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, CFTC

Mohamed Farid Saleh, executive chairman of Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority, chair of Iosco’s Growth and Emerging Markets Committee, continues as an Iosco board vice chair, the organisation said.

During Alder’s tenure, Iosco worked to enhance its relationship with the Financial Stability Board, which has led to increased cooperation on mitigating financial stability risks and protecting investors.
