The management board of Belgian private bank Degroof Petercam has put forward Sabine Caudron as head of private banking and member of its executive committee. She is due to replace former CEO Bruno Colmant, whose mandate expires after seven years.

Caudron’s appointment is due to be formalised at the bank’s general shareholders meeting on 24 May. The bank has also named two other female executives to its management committees.

In recent years at Degroof Petercam, Caudron was responsible for Private Banking Brussels and Private Banking Flanders. Caudron has nearly 30 years of experience in the financial sector and in private banking in particular. For 18 years she worked at BNP Paribas Fortis Belgium where she held the position of Director Private Banking Brussels. In 2012 she joined Puilaetco Dewaay Private Bankers as Head of Sales and member of the Executive Committee.

Big shoes to fill

“It is a privilege for me to take charge of the private banking business and join the executive committee and the board of directors,” Caudron said in a statement. “I look forward to further implementing the strategy with the team and investing in the growth of our private banking business for the benefit of our clients.”

Colmant, who served Degroof as head of macro research, CEO and head of private banking,  will step down.

“Under his leadership, the group has become stronger, for which we are grateful. He is also a brilliant economist, writer and academic, and we wish him every success in his future plans,” said Hugo Lasat, CEO of Degroof. “Through his interventions and economic analyses that he will share as a guest at our events, we will continue our collaboration with him.”

The Belgian bank named two additional senior directors. Sylvie Rémond chair its risk committee as independent director and will join its remuneration and audit committees. Tamar Joulia-Paris will join the risk committee.

Sylvie Rémond

A graduate of ESC Rouen, Rémond has 36 years of experience in customer relations, financial structuring and risk management within the Société Générale Group. She has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2011 and Group Chief Risk Officer since 2018. In addition, Sylvie has held mandates on the boards of directors of French and foreign subsidiaries of the Société Générale Group, on risk and audit committees, which has further strengthened her experience both in listed and unlisted companies.

Tamar Joulia-Paris

Joulia-Paris has more than 40 years of experience in the financial sector, more specifically in portfolio and risk management. She worked for the ING Group for nearly 25 years, successively as Head of Credit Risk Management at Banque Bruxelles Lambert and then as Global Head of Credit Portfolio Management, Global Head of Credit Markets and Global Head of Credit Portfolio Group. She is also a professor of financial risk management at the University of Saint-Louis (Brussels) and holds several mandates as an independent director, in particular at Greenomy and Dexia.

“The arrival of Sabine, Sylvie and Tamar on the board of directors is another important milestone for our group,” said Gilles Samyn, chair of Degroof’s management board. “We are delighted to be able to count on their skills and experience. These additional assets will fuel our strategic vision and further enhance the group’s development.”
