Serge Weyland, CEO at Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management in Luxembourg, is set to replace Camille Thommes as the director general of the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (Alfi), effective 1 January 2024, as announced by the association.
Thommes, leading Alfi since 2007, has been instrumental in establishing Luxembourg as the premier hub for cross-border investment funds. Under his guidance, Alfi has significantly boosted Luxembourg’s fund industry through global promotional campaigns, legal enhancements, and major regulatory contributions.
Alfi’s legal and tax director Emmanuel Gutton has been appointed as deputy director general, effective immediately. He will retain his existing duties while supporting Weyland in managing the association’s daily operations.
“We are thankful for Camille’s unwavering commitment and dedication throughout the years,” Jean-Marc Goy, chairperson of Alfi, said in a statement. “We are delighted to welcome Serge Weyland, a seasoned professional with solid knowledge of the asset management industry, as the incoming director general and to promote Emmanuel Gutton to the function of deputy director general. Serge, Emmanuel and our teams will continue the efforts of our association to further develop our sector.”
Weyland’s previous experience has touched on a wide range of different areas of the investment fund value chain including depositary services, investment management, fund distribution, business strategy and product and service development. He has been CEO at Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management for more than six years. Before that he was head of financial institutions at Banque Internationale à Luxembourg and served as head of regional coverage North America and UK at Caceis Bank Luxembourg.
Weyland said he is honoured to succeed Thommes. “Camille has built an impressive team and has made an invaluable contribution to the success of the Luxembourg fund industry. I look forward to working with Emmanuel, Miriam and Britta under Jean-Marc’s guidance to continue his work by harnessing opportunities and addressing the challenges for the fund industry in Luxembourg and beyond.”
Thommes said: “I sincerely thank my team, the Alfi governing bodies and our members for the trust over all these years. It’s been a privilege to serve our industry. I wish a successful continuation to Serge and the entire team. Alfi will be in good hands.”
