This week’s overview of transfers, appointments, promotions and other people news includes updates from MFS, Candriam, TMF and Eiopa.
Michael Derwael
Michael Derwael (photo) has been appointed as head of office at MFS Luxembourg, a key hub that facilitates the distribution of MFS products throughout Europe and other non-US markets. Derwael currently serves as senior director - independent risk, at the firm. MFS is a Boston-based investment firm.
He takes over from Lina Medeiros, president of MFS International, who will retire in April after a 26-year career. Prior to joining MFS, Derwael helped to build up risk practices at Lombard Odier Investment Managers, Luxcellence, Amundi and Quintet.
MFS launched the first US open-end mutual fund in 1924, opening the door to the markets for millions of everyday investors. It operates as a full-service global investment manager serving financial advisors, intermediaries and institutional clients.
Servaas Michielssens
Servaas Michielssens has been appointed as head of healthcare at Candriam, which manages assets of more than 144 billion euro. His appointment is part of a number of changes in the firm’s thematic global equity team.
Michielsens returned to Candriam after 16 months as investment manager at Ackermans & Van Haaren, a Belgian private equity firm. He will supervise Candriam’s healthcare offering, which represents some four billion euro in assets.
Based in Brussels, Michielssens will also co-lead the firm’s life care strategy together with Pierre Vaudrice.
Linden Thomson
Linden Thomson per 19 February joins Candriam as Senior Fund
Manager biotechnology and oncology. He joins the firm from Axa Investment Managers, where he led the biotech strategy and headed its healthcare franchise.
Rudi Van den Eynde
Rudi Van den Eynde, Candriam’s head of thematic global equity, anticipates his retirement in the first quarter of 2025. Johan Van der Biest will serve as co-head next to Van den Eynde and will take over his role upon his retirement. Van der Biest will lead a team of 21 investment professionals.
Lorraine Rooney
Lorraine Rooney has been appointed as ceo of TMF Fund Management in Ireland. She joins from Goodbody Fund Management where she serves as general counsel and head of product. She will lead a team that provides fund management company services and solutions across a range of fund strategies and structures.
Steven Vanackere
Steven Vanackere, vice-governor of the National Bank of Belgium, has been appointed to the management board of Eiopa, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority. He takes over from Else Bos, who stepped down from her position at De Nederlandsche Bank at the end of last year.
