This week’s overview of transfers, appointments, promotions and other people news includes updates from Robeco, Apex-subsidiary Holtera, and UBS

Erik van de Weele

Erik van de Weele (photo) has been appointed to join Robeco’s sales team covering Belgium and Luxembourg. In his role as director of institutional and wholesale business development, Van de Weele is responsible for a broad range of institutional and wholesale clients in the region.

Van de Weele joined Robeco from Allianz Global Investors, where he spent the last five years working as head of wholesale business development in the Benelux. Before that he held various roles servicing clients in the Benelux markets and financial industry. He spent over 12 years at Janus Henderson Investors and two years at ABN Amro Asset Management (now BNP Asset Management) as a leading sales director.

“I am delighted to welcome Erik to our team,” said Frank Groven, head of business development Belgium and Luxembourg at Robeco in a statement. “He has been showcasing an impressively high level of professionality, client-centricity, and market knowledge on a wide variety of topics including sustainable investments.”

Yovanka Bylander Arroyo

Yovanka Bylander Arroyo has been appointed as global chief commercial officer and head of Americas at Holtera, a subsidiary of Apex Group. Based in New York, she will drive Holtara’s global growth  strategies, including expansion into new client segments and geographies.

Bylander Arroyo previously was head of sustainability at TimesSquare Capital, where, as a member of the investment team, she launched the firm’s ESG integration program. Her work in the sustainability field began in 2011, when she joined Institutional Shareholder Services. Her most recent role there was global head of ESG client success.

Before joining ISS, Yovanka was acting CEO of Hawkstone Capital LLC, a 200 million dollar European long/short fund.

Rob Karofsky and Iqbal Khan

Rob Karofsky, previously the head of the investment bank at UBS, has been appointed to lead the US business and will now jointly oversee the wealth management division alongside Iqbal Khan. This management shakeup is seen as a step towards identifying a potential successor to chief executive officer Sergio Ermotti.

Khan, who formerly managed the wealth unit alone, will take on additional responsibilities as the president of the Asia Pacific region. He is expected to relocate to Asia later this summer, the Zurich-based bank said in a statement.

These changes are part of UBS’s efforts to restructure its executive board in anticipation of finalising its legal merger with Credit Suisse. This reorganisation is aligned with the bank’s strategy to bolster its presence in crucial markets in the Americas and Asia. Karofsky’s appointment furthers Ermotti’s goal of expanding operations in the US, while Khan’s new responsibilities will enable a concentrated focus on high-growth regions.
