This week’s overview of transfers and appointments in and around Luxembourg includes updates from BNP Paribas Asset management, law firms Loyens & Loeff and Stibbe, and from the European Securities and Markets Authority. Incoming US president Donald Trump appointed a new U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg.
Valérie Charrière-Pousse
Valérie Charrière-Pousse has been appointed head of European large-cap equities at BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM), effective 1 May 2025.
Charrière-Pousse, who succeeds Peter Abbott upon his retirement in April after 40 years in the industry, brings 26 years of experience to her new role. She has been part of BNPP AM’s European large-cap team since 2008 and was appointed deputy head of the team in 2023.
The Paris-based firm meanwhile appointed Linda Fodil and Thibault Sartori as investment directors in its private debt team.
Both will report to Christophe Carrasco, head of private debt. Their appointments coincide with the team’s plans to launch a direct lending strategy, offering unitranche and junior debt instruments, supported by financial backing from BNP Paribas Group.
Pierre-Antoine Klethi
Pierre-Antoine Klethi has been promoted to partner at Loyens & Loeff in Luxembourg. Klethi, who is part of the tax and investment management practice groups, focuses on fund and deal structuring and corporate tax advice. He also jointly leads the Luxembourg tax controversy team and contributes to industry organisations such as AmCham, UEL, and ALFI. In addition, he serves on the editorial board of the Revue Générale de Fiscalité Luxembourgeoise.
His appointment is one of five promotions announced by Loyens & Loeff. In Belgium, Stéphanie De Smedt has been named partner in the litigation and risk management group, where she heads the tech and commercial practice. In the Netherlands, Youssef el Harchaoui has been promoted in the employment and benefits team, specialising in employment law aspects of M&A deals and restructurings. Also in the Netherlands, Michaël Maters has been appointed partner in the investment management team, focusing on fund structures and regulatory matters, while Victor van Nuland, from the energy and infrastructure team, specialises in M&A transactions and renewable energy projects.
Carlo Comporti
The European Securities and Markets Authority (Esma) has appointed Carlo Comporti from Italy’s Consob as a new member of its Management Board. Comporti replaces Rodrigo Buenaventura from Spain’s CNMV and will serve the remainder of the term until 31 March 2027. The appointment was made during the Board of Supervisors meeting on 11 December 2024.
Current members of Esma’s board include representatives from Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Finland, alongside Esma’s executive director, vice-chair, and a European Commission representative.
During the same meeting, Esma also reappointed the Chairs of its Standing Committees for a term from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026. Jos Heuvelman, board member of the Dutch AFM, has been reappointed as chair of ESMA’s Senior Supervisors’ Forum, serving a new term from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026.
Stacey Feinberg
Family office investor Stacey Feinberg has been named the next US ambassador to Luxembourg by President-elect Donald Trump. The appointment was announced over a month before Trump’s inauguration on 20 January 2025. Feinberg, a businesswoman and board member of the Women Founders’ Network, succeeds outgoing ambassador Thomas Barrett.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Feinberg has served as president of Los Angeles-based 33 Capital LLC since 2018. Public company data shows the firm has one staff member. The firm describes itself as a family office with a focus on funding and empowering female entrepreneurs.
Feinberg, who studied at Northwestern University and briefly worked as an actress, began her career at her father’s sports and entertainment law firm. Her appointment marks part of a series of new ambassadorial nominations for Trump’s administration.
Christophe Martin-Raynaud
Christophe Martin-Raynaud has been promoted to Counsel in Stibbe’s tax practice in Luxembourg.
Martin-Raynaud is a specialist in national and international tax law, advising a broad range of clients on structuring and transactional matters. His expertise has been pivotal in assisting multinationals, financial institutions, and investment entities with complex tax issues.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Law from the University of Toulouse I Capitole and an LL.M. in Financial and International Tax Law from the University of Luxembourg. A member of the Luxembourg Bar (Avocat à la Cour) since 2017, he has practised tax law in Luxembourg since 2015.
Ueli Preisig
Ueli Preisig has been appointed as the new head of investment management at Deloitte Switzerland. Preisig, who joined Deloitte in 2020, brings extensive experience to the role.
Earlier in his career, he held senior positions at Deka, where he served as department head, and at Clariden Leu as head of product management in asset management. Clariden Leu merged with Credit Suisse in 2012.
