This week’s overview of transfers, appointments, promotions and other people news includes updates from Euroclear, Norton Rose Fulbright, Mourant Luxembourg and Pictet.
Valérie Urbain
Valérie Urbain (photo) has officially been appointed as chief executive officer of Euroclear, with her appointment having been approved at the May 3 annual general meeting. She will replace Lieve Mostrey.
Francesco Vanni d’Archirafi, chairman of the Euroclear group, expressed the board’s confidence in her appointment. “Valérie has the right experience and the value creation mindset needed to take Euroclear forward,” he said in a statement.
Euroclear’s shareholders also approved the appointment of three new board members: Paul Hurd, Katleen Vandewyer and Elly Hardwick. Its board now will be composed of 14 members.
Torsten Sauer
Torsten Sauer has been named as the new head of Luxembourg at law firm Norton Rose Fulbright. effective May 1. He joined Norton Rose Fulbright in 2017 from Allen & Overy upon the opening of the firm’s Luxembourg office.
Sauer was promoted to partner in 2020. Alongside his new role, Torsten will continue to lead the Luxembourg corporate practice, advising clients on international and domestic corporate transactions. He has extensive experience in cross-border M&A transactions with a strong focus on private equity, real estate, and wealth management.
Jan Dobrzensky
Jan Dobrzensky has joined Mourant Luxembourg, a law firm-led professional services business, as partner per May 2. Dobrzensky joins the firm from Arendt & Medernach SA, where he worked across the Private Equity and Real Estate and the Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions teams.
Dobrzensky has experience of advising private equity and real estate funds as well as international and domestic companies in the fields of company law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. He has been a member of the Luxembourg Bar since 2012 and of the Paris Bar since 2005.
Earlier this year, Mourant announced the internal partner promotion of Saniyé Tipirdamaz, head of the firm’s Banking and Finance practice in Luxembourg.
Lorraine Kuo
Lorraine Kuo has been hired by Pictet Asset Management as portfolio manager for its multi-asset team in Hong Kong. Pictet appointed Kuo as senior investment manager in the multi-asset team, according to a statement. In the role, she will report to Andy Wong, head of multi asset Hong Kong.
