Raymond Sagayam appointed as managing partner at Pictet

Pictet Group has announced the appointment of Raymond Sagayam as the 47th Managing Partner in the 218-year history of the firm, effective 1 January 2024.

Sagayam joined Pictet Asset Management in 2010 as head of total return fixed income to build and expand the firm’s long-short credit capabilities. His investment and management track record led him to be appointed chief investment officer of fixed income and a member of its executive committee in 2017. 

Deutsche Börse offers €3.9 billion for data firm SimCorp  

Deutsche Börse AG on Thursday made an offer of 3.9 billion euro in cash for Danish investment software and data provider SimCorp A/S. The offer is endorsed by SimCorp’s board.

The German stock exchange said it plans to integrate SimCorp into its existing data and analytics business and that the acquisition will allow the creation of a “full scope” front-to-back investment management solutions segment. 

Luxembourg aspires to leadership in Europe’s crypto market

Luxembourg is leading the way in Europe when it comes to crypto and blockchain technology. With MiCA, a new set of regulations from the European Parliament, Luxembourg’s early bet on cryptocurrency has been validated. We spoke with Nasir Zubairi, CEO of LHoFT - Luxembourg House of Financial Technology, who sees this as an opportunity for cryptocurrencies and crypto assets to enter mainstream markets within EU countries, and heard from banking association ABBL.

Division of labour: underrated gamechanger for ManCos

The implementation of the AIFMD, the European directive for alternative investment funds managers, in 2011 can be seen as the starting point for the transition to a greater degree of specialisation. The requirements in this directive have increased the cost of obtaining an AIFM licence to a point such that a licence often no longer is viable for smaller fund boutiques. As a result, the use of ManCos has become even more popular for tangible assets such as real estate.

EU warns climate insurance gap must be bridged

The European Central Bank and the EU’s top insurance body have warned that businesses and households are not sufficiently insured against climate-related disasters, raising the risk of financial instability and economic crises. A discussion paper issued this week argued that catastrophe bonds should play a bigger role in bridging the overall climate insurance gap, while national and European authorities need to encourage uptake of policies to prevent such crises from occurring. 

Luxembourg stock exchange expands cooperation with Macao

The Luxembourg stock exchange has announced a new move to expand its cooperation with Macao, one of China’s Special Administrative Regions. The bourse said it will offer trading in securities listed on the Chongwa (Macao) Financial Asset Exchange Co. Ltd., commonly known as MOX, on its self-regulated Euro MTF market.
