State Street names new Luxembourg country head

Riccardo Lamanna has recently become the Luxembourg Country Head for State Street. He entered the position after spending more than 30 years in the business, having worked in Milan, London and Paris at various institutions, including JP Morgan, Paribas, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group and over the past 11 years, at State Street.

Asia, data, greenwashing, labelling: the ESG challenge

Global asset managers appreciate the framework provided by the green investing taxonomy and SFDR, even if more needs to be done to flesh these out. There is also awareness that Asia is central if global environmental and social concerns are to be addressed. These were some of the broad themes from the “Disclosure Regulations & Their Impacts” panel at the recent Luxembourg for Finance Sustainable Finance Forum. 

Impact investing taking over from ESG

Despite much debate in the market about the hows and whys of ESG integration, impact investing is steadily making its way into the financial mainstream. In 2021, the first year in two decades in which extreme poverty once again rose, with lasting consequences for the world’s most vulnerable people in particular, the financial industry once again demonstrated the importance of real, tangible impact.

Fund houses ignore ESG investors

There is a mismatch between asset managers and institutional investors when it comes to ESG, according to PwC Luxembourg’s annual report on the Luxembourg banking sector, which this year places extra emphasis on developments surrounding ESG. The report explains that three-quarters of institutional investors plan to stop investing in non-ESG products next year, but only 14 per cent of fund houses plan to stop marketing non-ESG products. 

European equities preferred to US equities

The US stock market is always more expensive than other markets. However, America’s premium over Europe is now so high that betting on Europe may be a better option for investors, according to Joost van Leenders, who explained Van Lanschot Kempen’s outlook during a recent interview by Fondsnieuws, Investment Officer Luxembourg’s Dutch-language sister publication.
