Figures published by the supervisory Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier show that Luxembourg-registered investment funds were managing approximately 4,670 bn euro in November 2019.
Ever since 1998, Luxembourg has been gaining influence and volume as a hub for investment funds, showing next to no downturn in the process. In 1998, the total amount of capital managed by Luxembourg investment funds was approximately 500 bn euro.
After the steep drop in share prices at the end of 2018, the markets recovered quickly in 2019 and as a result were showing fast growing share prices and inflows. The last record of 4,280 bn euro was broken in March 2019 and ever since then, we have seen a continuous growth in managed funds.
The main challenge for this year will be the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, but the new milestone, 5,000 bn euro in managed funds, is already on the horizon. The threshold of 4,000 bn euro in managed assets was surpassed only in September 2017.
