This week’s overview of transfers, appointments, promotions and other people news includes updates from the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, EFG Bank, Edmond de Rothschild, UEL and Mapfre.
Laetitia Hamon
Laetitia Hamon (photo), head of sustainable finance at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, or LuxSE, has been appointed as member of the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on scaling up sustainable finance in low and middle-income countries.
The group, which includes 20 senior members and 20 observers, recently released its final report with 10 concrete recommendations for the Commission to follow in order to achieve its goal of fostering sustainable finance in these countries. Ayaan Adam, CEO of Africa Finance Corporation Partners, is the official rapporteur of the group.
Yves Maas
Yves Maas was recently appointed as the chairman of Swiss-owned private bank EFG Bank (Luxembourg) on 25 April, taking over from Bernd-A. von Maltzan, who held the role since April 2016.
Maas is a prominent figure in the European banking sector, having dedicated much of his career to Credit Suisse. There, he held several key roles, including managing director of international private banking operations and CEO of Credit Suisse Luxembourg. From 2017 until February 2024, he chaired the board of Credit Suisse Luxembourg. Additionally, Maas was actively involved in the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL), serving as its chairman from 2014 to 2018.
Marc Wagener
Marc Wagener has been announced as the new director of the Luxembourg employers federation (UEL) by its board of directors, following Jean-Paul Olinger›s departure to join the ACD tax agency.
Wagener will officially take over after a transition phase concluding on 31 August, as the UEL prepares for new leadership under his direction.
Fabrice Lefevre Sory
Fabrice Lefevre Sory has recently been appointed as senior real asset sales for Edmond de Rothschild, spearheading the development of their real assets business across a diverse geographic range including France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco, Sweden, French-speaking Switzerland, southern Europe, and the Middle East. The firm said his role is crucial as the firm aims to enhance its footprint in real estate and other real asset investments among institutional and wholesale clients.
His appointment is part of Edmond de Rothschild’s broader effort to strengthen their real estate investment management (REIM) capabilities across Europe. New appointments include a chief investment officer, and multiple heads of real estate asset distribution.
Dhananjai, known as ‘DJ’, will serve as chief investment officer of Edmond de Rothschild REIM UK,reporting to John Partridge, president of Edmond de Rothschild REIM UK. DJ will lead the company’s focus in the UK. Their strategy is primarily centred around residential sectors, including affordable housing and build-to-rent projects.
Robbert Zoet takes on the role of global head of distribution at Edmond de Rothschild AM and also serves as head of real estate asset distribution. He is tasked with leading a team of four senior business development professionals.
Juan Bernal
Juan Bernal has been appointed as group chief investment officer of Spanish insurer Mapfre, effective May 1st. Bernal brings over 25 years of experience in the financial sector, having worked with several Spanish asset managers and private banks.
He started his career at Banco Santander and, since 2012, has been with CaixaBank, where he most recently held the position of General Manager of CaixaBank Asset Management. Mapfre has a range of funds domiciled in Luxembourg and manages more than 50 billion euros with a team of 175 professionals based in Madrid, Boston, and Sao Paulo.
