The global ETF industry attracted some 76.4 billion dollars (67.2 billion euro) in net inflows in January, down from 84.38 billion dollars the same month a year earlier, according to ETFGI, a London-based research and consultancy firm.
Assets invested in the global industry for ETFs - Exchange Traded Funds - decreased by 3.9 percent to 9.9 billion dollars, down from a record 10.3 billion in December as a result of declining markets.
ETFs have continued to see net inflows for 32 consecutive months, it said.
At the end of January 2022, the global ETFs industry had 9,977 products, with 20,221 listings, assets of 9,870 billion dollars, from 617 providers listed on 79 exchanges in 62 countries.
Equity ETFs accounted for 61.9 billion dollars, or 81 percent of the total, according to ETFGI.
Net outflows for fixed income
Fixed Income ETFs and ETPs - Exchange Trade Products - listed globally reported net outflows of 4.1 billion during January, compared to net inflows of 16.1 billion dollars that fixed income products had attracted in January 2021.
Commodity ETFs/ETPs listed globally gathered net inflows of 3.8 billion dollars, up from 2.8 billion dollars in net inflows they attracted the same month year earlier.
Active ETFs/ETPs reported 8.8 billion in net inflows, lower than the $16.93 Bn in net inflows active products had attracted in January 2021.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered 45.4 billion dollars during January. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF gathered 4.40 billion, the largest individual net inflow.
