Goldman Sachs Asset Management, which officially took ownership of NN Investment Partners at the beginning of this year, on Wednesday announced a number of changes at the top of the Dutch-based asset manager. Valentijn van Nieuwenhuijzen, NN IP’s current chief investment officer, has been appointed global head of sustainability for public investing.
The board of NN IP has joined the GSAM leadership group as managing directors. In his future role, Van Nieuwenhuijzen (pictured) will report to Ashish Shah, the chief investment officer of public investing.
In the announcement, made Wednesday afternoon through an internal memo, it was announced that during the integration process, Van Nieuwenhuijzen will retain his current role and report to Satish Bapat, NN IP’s chief investment officer. Bapat has also been appointed chief operating officer of GSAM Emea.
Hester Borrie
Hester Borrie, currently chief client officer of NN IP, has also been appointed co-head of the Emea institutional client business. She will share this responsibility with Chloe Kipling, head of the UK & Ireland institutional client business.
Together they will lead the institutional client strategy in the region, as well as defining, overseeing and delivering on the growth ambitions of the institutional client business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea). The pair will report to Fadi Abuali, the current chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management International. With regard to the day-to-day business at NN IP, Borrie will retain her position for the duration of the integration process and report to Bapat.
Martijn Canisius remains chief finance & risk officer of NN IP and will continue to be responsible for co-leading the integration of NN IP into GSAM. He does this together with Glenn Thorpe, chief operating officer of GSAM International. Canisius will report to Bapat, as well as to Thomas Manetta, chief financial officer for asset management, and Arthur Leiz, chief risk officer for the public business of asset management. He will work closely with them in implementing the US House’s regional strategy.
Bob van Overbeek
Bob van Overbeek will continue in his role as chief technology and operations officer of NN IP and will lead the engineering and operations integration at Goldman Sachs. In addition, he will join the asset management operations and engineering global leadership teams. The focus will be on infrastructure strategy. Van Overbeek reports to Bapat as well as to Karl Wianecki, head of asset management operations, and Alex Potter and Kamlesh Talreja, who are also co-heads of asset management engineering.
Finally, Marieke Grobbe, who remains head of human capital management (HCM) for NN IP. She reports to Bapat and Katharina Koenig, head of HCM for EMEA, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. She will focus on the integration of the organisations . Emphasis will be “on improving the experience of our people,” according to GSAM.
Satish Bapat, who has been heading NN IP for the last few years. In his new role, he will be involved in “defining, prioritising and executing asset management strategy, including customer engagement, ESG initiatives and product development,” GSAM said.
Bapat brings to GSAM International’s leadership team in Europe “additional strategic and sector expertise to support our growth ambitions in the region, and will promote alignment between our investment, client and operational functions to enable the continued success of our franchise”.
In addition, Bapat will also remain part of the leadership team driving the integration of NN IP into GSAM. “He will be splitting his time between our London and The Hague offices in the coming months. He will report to Laurence Stein, Fadi Abuali and Jim Garman,” GSAM said in its memo.
