A lack of reliable Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data is significantly hindering the implementation of the European Union’s sustainable finance regulations, according to a survey by the CFA Institute.

The European Commission this week disappointed sustainable investment organisations by ignoring their collective call for mandatory reporting requirements that would force companies to make public core indicators for their non-financial sustainability performance.
‘ESRS changes undermine sustainable finance framework’
Brussels-based group Eurosif, representing national sustainable investment organisations including Luxembourg’s LSFI, has raised concerns over the European Commission’s draft proposal for European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Eurosif argues that the proposal fails to meet the ambitious standards outlined at the end of last year by the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG).

The EU’s top financial markets authority on Thursday invited the European Commission to clarify new sustainability reporting requirements for European companies and to make its legislation for non-financial reporting standards more consistent with other pieces of EU legislation.
