This week’s overview of transfers, appointments, promotions and other people news includes updates from Fidelity, Alma LED Luxembourg, Fundcraft and Better Finance.

Christine Baalham and Tom Record

Christine Baalham and Tom Record have been appointed as co-portfolio managers in the global equity team at Fidelity International. Veteran portfolio manager Jeremy Podger will transition to a senior advisory role in March 2024. 

Baalham and Record, both London-based, will jointly steer the UK domiciled Fidelity Global Special Situations Fund and the Luxembourg domiciled Fidelity Funds - World Fund. 

Baalham joins the Fidelity team from Ninety One. Her career highlights include a tenure as co-portfolio manager on the core Global Equity Fund and a pivotal role in founding the acclaimed 4Factor equity team. 

Record’s journey to Fidelity follows a significant stint at Liontrust as part of its Global Fundamental team. His expertise was further honed at Majedie Asset Management, where he managed funds for eight years. His career also includes a notable period as an Investment Manager at Baillie Gifford, where he managed institutional portfolios.

Federico Venturini and Olivier Amrein

Federico Venturini has been appointed managing partner at law firm Alma LED Lux. Olivier Amrein has been appointed partner and head of investment funds. Alessandro Corno, managing partner of Alma LED, takes the role of chairman.

Alma LED, as an Italian law firm, in January opened an office in Luxembourg after being admitted to the Luxembourg bar association. 

Venturini started his career in Italy, working in the Corporate & Finance department of one of the largest independent law firms and conducting academic research in the same fields. After transitioning a decade ago to the Luxembourg legal environment and working in some of the most important Luxembourg firms, he advised local and international clients as Avocat à la Cour on corporate/M&A, private equity and financial matters. 

Amrein has extensive experience in asset management and investment funds focusing on a broad range of asset classes, especially illiquid assets such as private equity, venture capital, debt funds, real assets, impact funds, innovative funds.

Peter Klinkner

Peter Klinkner has been appointed as the new head of fund operations at Fundcraft. He brings over a decade of expertise in financial services and a passion for operational excellence to our team. Klinkner previously served at Sanne Group and IqEq, 

Barbara Alemanni

Professor Barbara Alemanni, a specialist in behavioural finance and one of the four academic members of the European Securities and Markets Authority’s Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group has joined the Better Finance Scientific Council. Alemanni succeeds Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, who served on the Scientific Council for four years. 

The council, which includes Prof. Pierre-Henri Conac, Chair of the Scientific Council (Luxembourg), Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Veil (Germany), Prof. Niamh Moloney (Ireland), Prof. Dr. Jan Sebo (Slovakia), and Mr. Nicolas Véron (USA/EU) supports the delivery of high-quality research for financial services users, other stakeholders, and policymakers.
