High rates, sub-funds keep Raif registrations in check
Registrations of new Reserved Alternative Investment Funds (Raifs) in Luxembourg slowed in April, continuing a decline from last December’s peak, reflecting higher interest rates and a market shift towards sub-funds under existing structures.
Raif registrations show signs of renewed strength
Registration levels of new Reserved Alternative Investment Funds have continued their recovery from the slowdowns in activity seen earlier this year. In October, a total of 35 new Raifs were created, according to Investment Officer’s analysis of the latest Raif registration date made available in mid-November by the Luxembourg Business Registers.
Raif registrations down 20% for year to date vs 2022
Fund management companies in Luxembourg registered some 22 new reserved alternative investment funds (Raifs) in April 2023, according to publicly-released data updated on 15 May. This development brings the total for this year so far to 128. Considering only the first four months of the year, the total number was down 20 per cent from last year during the same period.
Raif registrations down 15% in Q1 vs yr-ago
A total of 30 new Reserved Alternative Investment Funds, or Raifs, were added to the Luxembourg Business Register during March 2023, down from 40 in the same month a year earlier. During the first quarter, 15 percent fewer Raifs were registered than in the same period last year.
Luxembourg Raif market back on track to beat 2021 record
A total of 43 new Reserved Alternative Investment Funds, or Raifs, were registered in Luxembourg during November, indicating that the market for these alternative investments is not slowing down after all, according to data released by Luxembourg Business Register.
Luxembourg reforms its business registers
Part of Luxembourg’s effort to tackle allegations that it enables questionable business and tax practices through a lack of transparency will be significantly upgraded through new rules, technical capacities, increased staff and administrative penalties by 2023.
Under a reform project involving a draft Grand-Ducal regulation announced last week, the Luxembourg government body that makes available business registration information – including a ultimate beneficial owner registry - will be overhauled and have its staff doubled.
Raif becoming vehicle of choice for alternatives
An alternative investment vehicle that relatively swiftly established itself in Luxembourg continued to become more popular last year, an analysis of data filed with the country’s business register shows. If growth continues at the current pace, Luxembourg will be home to more than 2,000 such funds, known as Raifs, by the end of this year.
